Barham is a village situated in the Kent Downs around 8 miles south-east of Canterbury, close to but out of sight from the A2, and seven miles north of Folkestone. The village dates back to its first mention in 799AD by the name of Bioraham (derived from Biora – a Saxon chief, and Ham – a settlement or homestead). Barham today consists of two parts, Barham itself and Derringstone which lies to the South.
